The Nelson Tasman region’s only saltwater baths lie on the Motueka foreshore. They offer spectacular views over the still, glassy waters surrounding them.
The tidal baths were originally created after a shark sighting in the early 1920s. A local fundraiser generated enough money to install galvanised wire and enclose the foreshore. The enclosure has now been further developed with a playground, picnic area, and BBQ pits and continues to be a popular attraction for families, locals, and visitors alike.
Whether you’re paddling under the warmth of the summer sun during the silly season, enjoying a winter sunset on the decking, or getting creative with photography during autumn, the saltwater baths are enjoyable all year round.
