At our central city location, the Lower Gallery leads visitors through an exploration of Te Tau Ihu, the top of the South Island from Tasman Bay to Golden Bay. This treasure-filled exhibition focuses on the region’s fascinating history and identity, offering hours of discovery. The upper level and gallery are used for exhibitions with local, topical, cultural, or international themes. A vibrant stained-glass window featuring New Zealand’s unique creatures and plants may be admired from the top floor.


Research Facility

Collections housed here include photographs, archives, art and a large general collection of objects connected with the Nelson and Tasman regions. These collections are used by local, national and international communities for research.
