31 May to 3rd June 2024
Bring an instrument and join in. The event provides tuition in Irish flute, tin whistle, fiddle, banjo and mandolin, accordion and concertina, guitar, bouzouki, and traditional singing. Informal live lounge concert, traditional music sessions in bars and cafés around town, family-friendly singing session, and a Festival Highlight Concert.
What is Ceol Aneas? Ceol Aneas is a festival of traditional Irish music, song, and dance. Ceol Aneas (pronounced key-ol an-ass) which means Music of the South in the Irish language, attracts traditional Irish musicians from around Aotearoa/New Zealand and abroad. There are workshops in traditional Irish tunes and techniques for instruments, a singing workshop, and dance classes.
There is also a ceilidh or ceili on Saturday night which anyone can attend, and a concert on Sunday night. Ceol Aneas students, tutors, and other musicians will be in the pubs around Nelson playing traditional Irish music sessions. There is no charge for these sessions, and you might want to go to more than one, as each one will be different. Join us for a weekend of great music and 'craic' (Irish for a good time)!
