Fuel up for a day of inspo

Kickstart your day out at RED, where Suzi and Antony Stevens have transformed a heritage gem into a hub of charmful art with community vibes. This is the place for the region’s only Best Ugly Bagels, perfectly paired with a cup of locally roasted Rabbit Island Coffee. Trust us, it’s the kind of breakfast that’ll make you feel smugly prepared to conquer the world—or at least Nelson City.

Self-guided art tour

Starting at the RED end of Hardy Street, just around the corner, you’ll find thought-provoking works by talented local artists at Quiet Dog Gallery. Nearby, visit Parker Gallery, which showcases a rich variety of fine art, from modern pieces to timeless creations. Then stroll towards the Maitai River and discover The Suter, a cornerstone of Nelson’s cultural scene, where you can explore dynamic exhibitions and a shop full of artist-made goodies you didn't know you needed.

Eclectic and cool

Break for a refreshing locally brewed drink at The Free House, a converted church where craft beer feels holy. Then, channel your inner DJ at the nearby record store, flipping through vinyl treasures to find your next favourite album. Keep the eclectic vibes going at Eclectic Antique Centre, where retro furniture, quirky collectibles, and maybe even the ghost of coolness past are waiting to be unearthed.

A day in the city isn’t complete without a visit to local co-op, Little Beehive. Here, you’ll find a collective of local artisans offering handmade jewellery, ceramics, and gifts, all crafted with love and skill.

Guaranteed good times

When it’s time to refuel, grab a table at Nicola’s Cantina for zingy Mexican-inspired flavours. Their tacos and margaritas are so good they’ll have you coming back for more. Even Suzi says they’re the best in Nelson.

Feeling fancy? A 5-minute drive whisks you to the Boat Shed, where you’ll enjoy dishes that highlight fresh, local ingredients from the sea in a serene setting with waterfront views.

It’s the perfect ending to a day of art, eats, and everything in between.
