Seasonal guides to Nelson Tasman

Nelson Tasman is a beautiful place to be at any time of year. There’s just something about the quality of the light that inspires visitors. 

In New Zealand, seasons officially begin at the start of certain months.

Spring: September - November

From September through November, temperatures are warming up, and the days are getting longer. There are fewer queues, and beaches are still relatively quiet before all the summer holidaymakers descend. 

Temperatures range from 16 - 19°C (61 - 66°F).

Summer: December - February

Here in Nelson Tasman, we know how to enjoy summer. The long days and warm nights from December through to February make it easy to get out and about and experience everything our region offers.

Temperatures range from 20 - 25°C (68 - 77°F).

Autumn: March - May

From March through May, the temperatures are pleasant, the sea is warm, and the days are calm, with golden blazing hues at sunrise and sunset—the perfect season to visit Nelson Tasman.

Winter: June - August

From June to August, our crisp, sunny winter days and mountains blanketed in snow make Nelson Tasman a dreamy location for a romantic getaway. As the perfect time to explore many of our walking tracks, the cooler weather allows visitors to appreciate our region's spectacular beauty in all its glory.

Temperatures range from 12 - 16°C (53 - 61°F).
