Cleopatra's Pools
Cleopatra's Pools in the Abel Tasman National Park are a series of natural rockpools at the base of the Torrent River.
Located between Anchorage and Torrent Bay, the ethereal Cleopatra's Pools are accessible via a slight detour along the Abel Tasman Coast Track. You can save some time at low tide by cutting through the Torrent Bay estuary, or you can take the slightly more scenic high tide track around the lagoon's edge.
As the pools are revealed through a native forest canopy, you’ll likely see some hardy souls in their swimwear sliding down the moss-lined chute. The natural waterslide is popular with people of all ages, although the pools can be pretty chilly. Further up the river is an adventure playground, but only those on guided canyoning trips will experience the waterfalls, rockscapes and rapids nestled high in the Torrent River canyon.
If taking a dip doesn’t appeal to you, there are plenty of large rocks encircling the pool where you can sit and enjoy a picnic or observe your pristine surroundings.
