Tata Beach is arguably one of the most beautiful beaches in the whole of New Zealand.

The glistening sands are remarkably irresistible, and at all times of the year it’s easy to get caught up in its beauty, relaxing on the beach as the warmth of the golden sun gradually transcends into a cool, evening breeze.

The perfect launching pad for kayaking, boating and swimming adventures, the beach is sheltered by the two islands of Motu and Ngawhiti, also known as the ‘Tata Islands’. The islands are home to New Zealand’s largest colony of spotted shags, a playful local seal community and even some illusive penguins, but it is on the golden shoreline where you’ll experience a wildlife encounter like no other. Shortly before sunrise, the spotted shags fly in from their roost, landing on Tata Beach and fluffing their tails as they empty their stomachs in a true spectacle of nature.

From Tata, you can explore the Abel Tasman National Park with Golden Bay Kayaks, the only kayaking experience that takes in the northern end of the national park. Paddling through the granite archway of Wainui Bay, you’ll get to immerse in the undiscovered (yet equally as beautiful) scenery that curves around the wondrous coast.
